The ILO is organizing a Global Social Protection Week, which will take place at the International Labour Organization headquarters in Geneva from 25 to 28 November 2019. The Global Social Protection Week on “Achieving SDG 1.3 and Universal Social Protection (USP2030) in the Context of the Future of Work” starts with a two-day High-Level Conference followed by a two-day Technical Segment.

In this third webinar of the USP2030 webinar series, participants discussed social security current and future challenges, risks, innovation and opportunities. In this webinar, panellists have presented some specific examples in low- and middle-income countries that guided the discussion around key learnings, strategies and limitations to what has been implemented in different places around the world.
Levels of social security protection are uneven worldwide although the coverage trend continues to increase. To enhance social security coverage in line with the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, countries have been looking into developing innovative policies and strategies to improve their social security systems.

Here some of the most prominent issues were explored in a more practical way, through case studies and examples.

Following up on the conference ‘Together to Achieve Universal Social Protection by 2030’, this webinar contextualized macro challenges on the expansion of social protection coverage, focusing on global challenges and opportunities considering the SDGs' context. The concept of Universal Social Protection has been explored, and technical and institutional aspects were discussed. This webinar introduced the USP2030 Webinar Series.
