Webinar Presentation - Constituency Building and Fiscal Space for Social Protection - Navigating Political Space

This final webinar in the Fiscal Space for Social Protection series, held on 26 January 2017, "Constituency Building and Fiscal Space for Social Protection - Navigating Political Space" built on previous webinars with presentations from Dr. Jeremy Seekings (Interim Director of the Institute for Democracy, Citizenship and Public Policy in Africa, South Africa) and Ms. Aura Sevilla (Project Manager at the Coalition of Services for the Elderly, Philippines) on both current research and hands-on experience of building support for social protection across regions. With greater calls for governments across the globe to develop and maintain systems which are tailored to their national circumstances and compliant with internationally recognized norms of social protection, the political space for policy makers to operate is often contingent on the understanding and support of constituent citizens for greater government intervention. This webinar brought together recent findings from Africa and first-hand accounts from the Philippines to highlight the range of factors which continue to shape the success of various stakeholders to address the fiscal space needed for social protection by encouraging the political space for discussion.
